To provide grass roots input into the political process by identifying and promoting local, regional, state, and national political issues and positions embraced by DCDW. To be an effective action forum supporting candidates and issues.

It is our responsibility to protect our environment. Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare.

Our VOTING Recommendations:

QUESTION 6: This will add an entirely new section to the Nevada Constitution, separate from the Nevada Revised Statutes. It does mirror and constitutionalize the protections currently found in NRS 442.250, which is Nevada’s voter‑protected abortion statute.

QUESTION 7: Nevada Question 7 is the voter ID constitutional amendment. It would add a new section to the Nevada Constitution requiring voter identification for all elections.

This is confirmed by the Nevada Secretary of State’s 2026 Ballot Question Guide, which lists Question 7 as: “Proposes to amend the Nevada Constitution to require voter ID.”

An educated citizenry is essential to a functioning democracy.

Our group is dedicated to building a strong foundation of "Community" here in Douglas County and sharing the knowledge, the tasks and the rewards of serving our community.

  • Help our Scholarship effort by ordering dinner at Pizza Factory on the 1st Tuesday of each month & mentioning “DCDW”. We will get 20% of the sale towards our Scholarship Fund.

    Every year we honor local high school students who exemplify the Credo of the Democratic Party with a scholarship towards their future endeavors. Students are selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, an autobiographical essay, and an essay on the topic of “The Democratic Credo.”

    Supporting local students through annual scholarships is one of the many ways DCDW invests in the future of Douglas County. By encouraging young people to pursue their goals and continue their education, the organization hopes to strengthen the entire community.

  • From the shores of our beautiful Lake Tahoe to the needs of sheltered or abused women, we sponsor drives to provide them with items of need sharing the “help your neighbor” attitude inherent in our Democratic Values.

    September brings our Pet Xtravaganza - an afternoon of fun with your pets, benefitting DAWG and Between Horses and Humans. See the flyer on our Events page. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Look for our boxes at the Community Center, the Douglas Dem office in the Ironwood Plaza collecting clothes and household items for our Women’s Shelters.

  • Team up to review and follow Nevada’s Legislative Agenda and sharing that information with the organization for advocacy. We follow local County and Federal Legislation and work to educate our neighbors with our Letter to the Editor writing campaigns. We are getting ready for the new Legislative Session starting in February 2027.

  • We welcome your interest in becoming a member of the Douglas County Democratic Women. Our Membership Application is located on the “About” page, or reach out through our Contact Us page and a Membership Application will be mailed to you.

  • A committee of one or two, finding our interesting speakers and programs and hosting them. Oversees our monthly luncheons. In November the speakers will be YOU! Here is a chance to get to know each other better.

  • In our mission to provide scholarships to deserving young women, and to cover internal expenses, we strive to find fun and innovative ways to bring in the bucks!

    Pizza Factory in the Ironwood Plaza is providing a portion of all sales on the 1st Tuesday of each month when you mention DCDW. (After 4:30pm)

1. To be an effective action forum supporting those candidates and issues the Douglas County Democratic Women (DCDW) have endorsed.

2. To identify and encourage excellent, qualified candidates to participate in politics and government.

3. To provide “grass roots” input into the political process by identifying, publicizing and escalating the local, regional, state and national political issues and positions endorsed by the DCDW membership.

4. To study, then discuss and educate DCDW membership on relevant issues, events, candidate positions, legislative activities, and other matters of local, regional, state and national importance. (Legislation Committee)

5. To inform and educate DCDW membership and the public by organizing membership meetings, political speakers, conferences and training workshops in response to current issues and DCDW political priorities. (Program Committee).

6. To effectively utilize the media to promote DCDW and to publicize the events, issues and candidates the DCDW membership has voted to support. (Communications Committee)

7. To register voters thereby encouraging public participation in the democratic process, especially those citizens likely to be supporters of DCDW-supported issues and candidates. (Voter Registration)

8. To encourage voter participation in elections by identifying, contacting, and bringing registered voters out to the polls, especially those likely to be supporters of DCDW supported issues and candidates. (“Get Out the Vote”)

9. To sponsor and promote fundraising activities for both the DCDW and in support of DCDW supported issues and local candidates. (Fundraising Committee)

10. To work in cooperation and partnership with the Douglas County Democratic Central Committee, the Nevada State Democratic Party and the National Democratic Party.

Why We Gather

We believe everyone deserves a fair shot at being heard. That’s why we create tools, trainings, and spaces that make advocacy simple and welcoming. As a member of the Nevada Federation of Democratic Women and its national group, we offer the ability to get involved beyond the local level. Most years we are able to hold meetings with both State and National Representatives and hear what they are doing.
